Identify people who are familiar with your product and ask them to write down one to five words that best describes what you sell. Take time to work combinations of these words based on the product that you sell.
If you are dealing with more than one product, your list of keywords and phrases should be expansive. Use Google’s free keyword tool. This tool is available at Google AdWords. Identify the terms with low results during your keyword research using this tool.
The next thing you need to do is a competitor research. To get started, do your searches on each of the available search engines. Using Google, Bing, Yahoo and other searches will help you to try out queries with your terms.
This should help you to know which terms are high value search terms and help bring that specific keyword traffic. Take notice of the searches that have paid ads on the side columns and those that do not.
Choose at least 10 keywords that you have found most valuable. You can have a combination of short keywords as well as the long tail keywords. A short combination should not exceed two words. A long tail keyword should have a combination of not more than five words.
Install the SEOQuake tool on your Google Chrome toolbar. This tool will help you know the number of searches being conducted based on the identified keywords.
Do not forget to evaluate and quantity and the value of your keywords. Test your most favorite keywords for value and then begin to use them for your ads or content marketing campaign.
